Camping: FINAL DETAILS

Word up my babies…

Went up last night and setup some tarps and tents and paid through Fri night (good thing too, there was only 14 sites left by the time we wrapped up at 10:50pm!).

Site #s: 44, 45, 48, 84 & 85

44, 45, 85: tents, Marko’s trailer on 85 plus a cpl tents
48: Kathy/Ryan’s RV only
84: parking in theory (to be determined Fri night once I speak with rangers on duty but plan to park outside the gate!)

Weather: supposed to rain Fri & Sun so bring tarps and dress warm)

Bonus: I am thinking to buy and build a solar shower for all to use. Just boil water and well… I can explain it up there if I get one (girls will appreciate I’m sure :-)

Campin’ a plenty THIS weekend

Well folks, what I had initially thought of as a small kickoff to the camping season this upcoming July long weekend now has the promise to end up a gong show.

I’ve been in touch (not literally, that’s just gross) with most of you about the planning. Some of you haven’t heard from me yet, nor I of you. I figure we should at least hook up via MSN or phone so you can stay in the loop re: site numbers, final counts, directions and to answer any questions you may have.

Details:

Location: Chilliwack Lake (map)
Dates: June 29th to July 2nd (although a few of us are heading up Thurs Wed eve to lay down tents and effectively “reserve” sites for all of us/you to ensure we have sites Fri to Mon).
Weather: Rain or shine; hey, its BC right? (forecast)
Acquiring sites: Everyone MUST contribute to the Wed/Thurs site rental costs ($14/site/night divided by however many ppl come up Fri), regardless if you decide to come up Wed, Thurs or Fri. Reason being is that Chilliwack Lake DOESN’T allow reservations and with this being a long weekend (with the greatest potential for good weather so far this year), no sites will be left if we all “wing it” and head up Fri. Essentially, we all throw in (give or take) $5/night for Wed/Thurs to ensure we’ve got good spots all weekend. You are more than welcome to start camping on the 27th or 28th if you’ve got the time off — Hank and son are goin’ up Thurs. Me and fiance are heading up Thurs Wed eve to choose the sites, setup tents and pay for them. Once we all get there on Fri, I will determine everyone’s “share” and talk to you about it — Easy peasy!
Misc notes: Two words: CARPOOL and FIREWOOD :-) The less cars, the less YOU pay. While everyone shares in the Thurs “reserve” costs, you are all on your own for chipping in for the balance of your stay Fri to Mon. Charges are $14/night which I believe includes up to 2 cars (from the same household so just lie if someone asks) and/or 3 tents. Anything extra is $7/night per site so think conservatively. WE WILL HAVE EXTRA CARS that need to be parked outside of the gate to keep prices down. As for firewood, last year it was $6/bundle or 3 for $15. A bundle lasts about 1 hour or so and last year it got to be pretty costly. I’m not paying for everyone’s firewood this year, nor do I expect anyone else to pay for mine. If we all grab some wood when we come up (preferably untreated so we can cook with it), it will be a lot cheaper. If we all, towards the end of the weekend, need to chip in $5 if we are running out of whatever we bring, not a big deal but I warn you, it will cost more than $100 for us if we don’t bring any. Please try ;-) Also, I believe the park staff will be doing ice rounds in addition to wood rounds so if you don’t want to travel 20 mins back to a store for ice, you should still be able to get it without leaving. Bottom line, just bring a bit of cash (not a lot mind you) for camping, extra wood and ice if you want.

Once I’ve booked sites Thurs (28th) Wed (27th), I will be calling and/or emailing everyone from the “confirmed list” (below) with our site numbers so you can avoid having to hunt through 146 sites. I can tell you I’ve received requests for close to the playgrounds so keep that in the back of your mind if you don’t hear from me. My contact info is below and if we haven’t spoke about this trip, I suggest you email me or call me with your contact info so I can keep you in the loop and answer any questions. I promise I won’t bite, unless you want me to ;-)

One more thing; if you will not be coming up or are thinking of bringing more people, I NEED TO KNOW to adjust the amount of sites when I pay for them in advance on Thurs Wed. I don’t mean to sound like a dick, but if ppl bail on the confirmed list and don’t let me know, or bring more ppl when there isn’t extra room, I won’t be booking for you again. This is supposed to be FUN, not Jason losing $$$ :-) I’ve got no problems planning it out, but don’t leave me in the dark or expect me to do everything. I can only do what I can.

Confirmed list:

2 - Jason (me) & Jodi
4 - Marko, Elysia & kids
3 - Hank, Jen & kid
1 - Clint
2 - Spence & girlfriend
2 - George & Brenda

Clint, if I’ve missed anyone from Facebook, let me know when you email/MSN me with the above ppls’ contact info (from Shawna down). If I don’t get their info, they won’t know what sites we are in is all.

Cheers all and excited to drink with you, err… SEE you soon!

P.S. I’m not bringin’ the boat this trip unfortunately. Apparently the launch and possibly beaches are flooded out, not to mention I don’t have my truck bagged yet (still a lil’ too low for the launch).

The ‘roids made him do it

Then again, maybe Benoit killed himself because he spent most of his life oiled up in latex pants holding other men.

UPDATE: As more information unfolds, Benoit’s wife *may* have killed their child, then called Chris to tell him, for which he rushed home in a rage and strangled her with the cord from him alarm clock. Or was it her alarm clock? Hmm.

I never liked him, regardless how this transpired. RIP to the innocent one(s).

Damn for damn, I really wanna know who’s alarm clock it was.

P.S. Paris for president (of my ass!)

iPhone Rate Plans Revealed (US)

Apple has put up a page detailing the cost of the rate plans. They aren’t as bad as people had thought: All plans with unlimited data - $60 for 450 minutes, $80 for 900 minutes and $100 for 1350 minutes. Existing customers can add unlimited data for $20 - $40 with a varying number of text messages.

Doesn’t really affect us here in Canada yet, but at least there’s movement on this piece, set for release June 29th at 6pm. Hopefully Canadian prices are at least inline with these posted rates.

The Avg U.S. d/l speed now is 1.97Mbps vs. 61Mbps enjoyed by the Japanese

“The USA trails other industrialized nations in high-speed Internet access and may never catch up unless quick action is taken by public-policymakers, a report commissioned by the Communications Workers of America warns.” reports USAToday. Okay I understand the international speed difference, but Kansas is rated #1 at 4.1Mbps say it ain’t so.

Paris all the wiser? [giggles]

Now that Paris Hilton has wrapped her 23-day stay in jail for transgressions against mankind, one can only hope that her stay in the pokey will erase, or at least dilute, the delusional and masochistic qualities that seem to swarm in her DNA.

Rewind the clock to the MTV Movie Awards numerous Sundays ago. In fact, note it in the history books. I can’t swear by it but I think it may have been the first — and hopefully only — time in recorded history that someone who was headed to the lockup first walked the celebrity red carpet at an event, went to the event, then checked themselves into jail. Because, incredibly, that’s exactly what Paris did.

On the red carpet, here’s what Paris told CNN: “I feel like the media portrays me in a way that I’m not.”

Huh? How’s that?

Oh, you mean the sex tapes? Or the party tapes featuring Paris spewing ugly racial and homophobic epithets? Or did she mean the let’s-humiliate-Lindsay Lohan “firecrotch” tape? Or was it the new season of “The Simple Life” in which the opening episode featured her and Nicole Richie as camp counselors at a so-called “Fat Camp” where they squealed in seeming delight as they administered enemas to overweight campers?

Now let me ask a question. Or two. If YOU were already facing public humiliation and disgrace, would you not want to slink away and do everything possible NOT to bring attention to yourself? Would you really want to go in front of some of the most aggressive reporters in the business and subject yourself to questions? Would you then want to THEN go into an event (the MTV Movie Awards) that was being broadcast nationwide, a show that was guaranteed to zoom in on you repeatedly while the host of the show made relentless and biting fun of you, a host (Sarah Silverman) known for taking no prisoners?

And served a softball, Silverman cranked her bat like a propeller and knocked it out of the park. After announcing that Paris was going to jail, a roar of cheers went up from the crowd as Paris squirmed in her seat. And then came Silverman’s crack of the bat. “As a matter of fact, I heard that to make her feel more comfortable in prison, the guards are going to paint the bars to look like penises.”

I’m not holding my breath but I will wait to see if a new and improved Paris has emerged from the pokey.

50-year-old buried car needs claiming

TULSA, Oklahoma (AP) — R.E. Humbertson, wherever you are, you are the winner of “Miss Belvedere,” the rusty 1957 Plymouth hauled from its leaky vault last week after being buried for a half century.

Humbertson, born July 1921, or his or her closest living relative, has five years to claim the two-door hardtop that drew international attention when it was unearthed, organizers announced Friday.

When the car was buried in 1957, hundreds of people submitted guesses on what Tulsa’s population, which was around 250,000 in 1957, would be in 2007. Humbertson’s guess of 384,743 was only slightly off the official U.S. Census count of 382,457.

There were more than 800 guesses, ranging from zero to 2 billion, written on a paper list and postcards inside a time capsule buried in the concrete vault, supposedly tough enough to withstand a nuclear attack.

“She doesn’t belong to anybody, somebody’s going to belong to her,” said event organizer Sharon King Davis, whose grandfather helped bury the Plymouth.

Davis and others announced the winner at East Tulsa Dodge, where the car had been on display the past week.

True to form, it was a circus: Dozens of onlookers crammed into the showroom to get one last look at the rusted-out car, snapping photos with cell phone cameras and chitchatting about what they’d do if they won her.

“I’d throw up my hands and say somebody help me,” joked Terry Templin, who was in his 20s when the Plymouth was buried. “My wife wouldn’t want it in the garage.”

The entries were examined this week by the audit, tax and consulting firm of Deloitte, where a team of volunteers plugged the names and guesses into a spreadsheet to determine a winner.

Several people listed their birthplace as “Indian territory,” and dates of birth ranged from 1888 to 1957.

If Humbertson or his or her heirs don’t come forward, the gold and white Belvedere will be held in trust for five years, according to the state’s Unclaimed Property Act.

After that, a judge or court will decide what to do with it.

“The eyes of the world are still on Tulsa and Miss Belvedere,” Davis said.

Why bother goin’ to the movies?

A coworker put me onto this site during one of our “really busy” periods at work. And when I say “really busy”, I mean “laxatives are on sale this time of year”.

You can literally watch hundreds or thousands of streaming movies instantly, including most, if not all of the current flicks in the theaters.

Leggo my [L]ego

My first impulse was to carve these doods for their terrific waste of time playing with toys, however with a modest amount of restraint (adopted from a recent anger-management episode of Oprah) I can see that they aren’t virgins filled with an overwhelming reluctance to grow older and leave home.

They’s IS people too!
